Engineering Consulting 583 Candlewood St. Brea, Ca. 92821 Tel. 714-671-2009

Version 5.3.1 version minimum requirements:

You must download and install Apple's Quicktime QT  (Advanced or custom install; basic Quicktime 4.0 install will not work) or higher and your audio hardware MUST be full duplex, ie: Sound Blaster 2.0 compatible (or you will not be able to send and recevie audio) We recommend Windows 98 or later (XP is best). Note: Windows 95 requires several updates to function. If you plan on sending video you must have Windows 98 or later. If you are not sure if your audio hardware is full duplex you can connect to our TV feed on line. If you hear no audio after a minute or so then either your audio card is not full duplex or the full duplex option is disabled. Download this duplex audio test program to determine if you have full duplex capability.

Decency Rules: No PORN is allowed to be displayed on the Active PUB at any time. No harassing anyone on line. Anyone doing this will have their demo terminated.

ClearPhoneProWin™ Installation and Operation is as follows:

After downloading run the CPwin.exe installer first.

Use this page to display other online active users. The page will automatically refresh every 3 minutes so you will see new users as they log on. Position the browser window on one side of the desktop so that you see who is on line. Incoming and outgoing Call windows will appear in the main ClearphoneProWin™ program window. Running the ClearPhoneProWin™ Program
When sending video you will see your image in the Live Digitizer Window

The Receive and Talk indicator lights display incoming and outgoing data. Click on the Red talk light to Mute your microphone (a red "X" appears when muted) to this caller or click the green receive light to stop incoming voice from this caller. The camera Icon indicates when the video Channel is on or off for this call. The PUB 1 Active indicator shows that your Clearphone program is logged on to our server and your name should appear to other clearPhone users.

File Sharing between calls using "Personal Web Sharing"

Doument and files can be shared between PC and other PCs and Macs when your "Personal Web Sharing" is active on your computer. Even if you have a dynamic IP address, ClearPhone will all access from callers wishing to share files between computers. Both Macs and PCs wishing to share files must turn on "Personal Web Sharing". Once connected if "Personal Web Sharing" is active you may click the "PWS HTTP" button on the call window to open the callers shared WEB folder. Files can be received from the callers WEB folder while you are talking to one or more calls. Simply click on the file you wish to receive. Graphics such as gifs and jpegs can either be saved to your hard disk or opened directly in your browser once received.

The ClearPhone Menu task Bar Provides Control settings as shown

The Quicktime Audio The Quicktime Setup panel above can be used to see the mic level but can NOT be used to adjust the Mic Gain. The Gain slider will just bounce back if you try to move it. This is an Apple Quicktime limitation. You must use the Window's audio "recording" mic gain and speaker panels to adjust the Microphone gain and audio response. If you have "Advanced Audio Properties" select "Full hardware Acceleration" and "Good" for Sample rate conversion Quality.

4)Open the "Adjust Audio Input Quicktime Panel" in Clearphone found in the ClearPhoneProWin™ using the top "red sine wave" control bar button. While open, Point the mouse at the speaker Icon on your windows status bottom bar, and "Right click" the speaker Icon to open the panel "Adjust Audio Properties". Next open the Windows audio setup panel and set your microphone audio level. Set the vertical audio level bar to bounce up to about 1/2 scale. Do not set the level to high to prevent distortion.

5)After selecting your Microphone in the Recording Control Panel, set the audio level using the Microphone Volume Slider. You will see the level change in the vertical bar and in the Quicktime panel horizontal bar (the Quicktime panel must be open to set the mic gain. Set the level to about 1/2 scale when you speak in a normal voice.

6)To call other users click once on the name of the person you wish to call. On your first attempt to make a call, you will be asked if you want to "Open" or "Save" the file. Turn off the button named "Always ask..." to make this process automatic from now on then Choose "Open" and your party will be called.

7)ClearPhoneProWin™ will be on line and able to Receive calls when the "Pub 1 Active" message is indicated in the lower task bar.

8)When a call is received you will hear a phone ringing sound. Note: If you can only send or receive audio then your audio card is most likely not full duplex. If you are not sure about your audio card, download this program (audiochk.exe *about 700k). Run it and it will show you how to check your audio card properties and driver settings to see if it is a full duplex card. To answer the call click the Answer button on the "ringing" call window. When the call is connected you may start to speak. Audio transfer is full duplex so headphones are recommended. Or you may use the "Mic" button to "Mute" the audio when you are not speaking.

In this Preview, there is no Talk or receive audio indicators yet but you should hear the person you are connected to with some delay. You can have one or more calls active at the same time. The Mic button is used to MUTE your send audio. The "Use Video" check box will turn on the video channel. This indicator will either go on automatically when someone is sending you video or you can click it on to see their video, which you should see if the person has an active digitizer open. The Status indicates the call status.

9)To make a call, click on a name from the "Active Pub 1 user list" located in your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape). ClearPhoneProWin™ will automatically launch your browser to the ClearPhone Pub 1 page on the Internet when the program begins.

The Internet Browser is used to make calls. When you click the name in your browser (once you install ClearPhoneProWin™) you will see a connection window pop up as an attempt is made to dial the user. If the user is off line you may get a page error and have to go "back" to the Pub 1 page. Note: The first time user will see a Windows dialog. Select "Open" and uncheck the box so that the message will never appear again.

We suggest that if you are just waiting for a call you can close your browser. Placing the browser window next to the ClearponeProWin™ main window will allow easy access to the answer button when incoming calls are received. To test your ClearPhoneProWin™ calling capability, call one of the online TV broadcast feeds. If your computer has full duplex audio then you will hear the TV sound and see the live video. If you hear no incoming audio, or if you cannot send audio, then you may not have a full duplex audio card. The typical cost of a Sound Blaster V2.0 compatible audio card is around $25 or less. Check with your computer's manufacturer to find out if your audio card is full duplex. The current model Compaq Presario 1200 series for example are full duplex.

Please note that we will provide updates to this preview and this online manual as soon as they are available.

Large groups participating in a video conference

Method #1 -teaching/lecturing Moderator environment.
Allow one person to be the Moderator, that person should have a reasonably high speed connection (ISDN or faster) each participant in the group should call the Moderator . Turn up the speaker volume and do NOT use headphones. Normally running duplex mode requires headphones. When you do not use the headphones and turn up the speaker volume , each person's incoming voice to be picked up by the microphone will be retransmitted back to the entire group that the moderator is connected to. This allows everyone to hear the moderator and all voices that he hears from those in the group. This method will provide voice in all directions and video between the moderator and all those in the group. This method does not provide a way for each person in the group to see each other.

Method #2 -full group participation in all directions
For each everyone to see and hear each other in the group conference, each person must call and connect to each other directly by dialing each other with Clearphone. Once connected, each caller can send audio and video to every participant within the group. Since audio and possibly video will be sent to every user within the conference, sufficient bandwidth must be available for every user within the conference. Keep the receive video window small (use 1/2 size to preserve monitor space for incoming video)

Firewall Operation

To use ClearPhoneProWin™ behind a firewall you must provide 4 consecutive ports for each Windows computer running ClearPhoneProWin™. Each port group must be different for each PC. You must also select the first Port number under "Network settings for each PC running ClearPhone". The default is Port 2008. You must provide NAT table access for 4 consecutive ports 2008, 2009, and 2010, 2011 for the first computer, and a set of 4 different sequential Ports for each additional PC running ClearPhoneProWin™. To receive calls be sure to enter the 1st Port number in your group as the TCP call port (shown above). Each computer running ClearPhoneProWin™ must have a set of 4 different ports assigned in your NAT router table to provide incoming call access through a firewall. Ask your network administrator to do this for you. You may pick any sequential group of 4 ports generally between PORT #'s 1050 and 2048 for each computer behind the firewall.

Registered users may select any of the private PUB areas (2 through 9) to log on to. The PUB #1 is the default where all demo users will be listed. When you quit the program the current PUB # will be stored so that the log on will default to the previously selected PUB.

Server Support provides easy file transfer access to your computer when connected to other ClearPhonePro™ users. When your Personal Web Server is active you may select (check) the PWS. When connected to other Mac or Windows running Clearphone they will be able to click on the (PWS) button in your call window. This will open their browser to your WEB server folder providing access for file transfer between the connected callers.
